“The VMRC console has disconnected…attempting to reconnect” warning on my VMware esxi5.5 environment at work annoyed me no end for a few hours as I was baffling over what it meant.
There are two resolutions that I could find;
Restart the client machine, log back into the vsphere client and all should be well.
If like me however you try to avoid shutting down because it gets in the way of working then simply close vsphere client, open Task Manager and stop “vmware-vmrc.exe“, “vmware-remotemks.exe“, and “vpxclient.exe” by right clicking each event in processes and selecting “stop“. log back into vsphere client and the system should be up and running again.
Insert the install media, in my case a CD and boot the machine. Ensure that the machine is set to boot from your media and allow it to run its course. A blue screen will appear and ask if you wish to boot from installer or local disk , as this is a fresh install, select installer .
The installer will load and may take some time as the yellow bar crosses the screen. Then a grey box will appear on the screen, press Enter to continue, read the EULA and press F11 to continue. Choose the device to install to and press Enter , if there is already an installation then you can upgrade but in this instance I select install and press Enter . Prior to partitioning and installing, press installer to confirm and continue
